Tillery Custom Carts was not a struggling dealership. Jeff was already selling 40 to 50 carts a month across his stores in the Carolinas in peak months. After Cart Launch went live, his words were “we’re selling at least 10 to 15 more a month right now,” and the leads started within three days. He said all of this on camera, twice: once in a sit-down interview and once at the Raleigh RV show. Here is what he said, with nothing added.
Who is Tillery Custom Carts?
A multi-location golf cart dealer in the Carolinas, with a site at tillerycarts.com built by Cart Launch. For dealers on either side of the state line, see golf cart dealer marketing in North Carolina and golf cart dealer marketing in South Carolina.
Jeff describes himself as a careful buyer of anything marketing related. “I’m just that kind of person, from a business point of view, of spending that extra money. Is it going to help or not? You got some companies out there just fly by night, and then you’re just throwing money out there.”
That matters, because the results below are coming from someone who did not want to spend the money.
What was Tillery Custom Carts selling before Cart Launch?
A lot. “The sales were good. We were selling, during peak months, anywhere from 40 to 50 a month.”
But the only marketing was Marketplace. “The only thing we’ve done before is on Marketplace. When we have time, we post stuff on Marketplace. Started that maybe two, two and a half years ago.”
And Marketplace had stopped being an edge. “We were the first, out of many people, that actually started doing Marketplace when we brought in the manufacturer, and it was a hit. And then other dealers started coming on, everybody started looking at stuff, competition of course. So we said, we need to do something different.”
That is the whole story of Marketplace for dealers. It works until everyone is on it. Then you are renting attention on the same page as every competitor you have.
What results did Tillery Custom Carts see?
“Sales started boosting up after you guys came in. We’re selling at least 10 to 15 more a month right now.”
On timing: “Especially right now, beginning of the fall season here in the Carolinas, things start to die down, but right now we’re steady.”
Later in the same interview: “Sales are definitely coming in and starting to double, as far as more people walking through the door, us showing them around.”
And the one-sentence version: “Sales. We’ve had some service come out of it. Social media. It’s expanded the business.”
How fast did the leads start?
Three days.
“You guys came down here, we did the whole package deal where you came down and did it live. I was like, man, this might take a couple weeks. It wasn’t three days. Our leads started blowing up. I was getting four or five a day, and from everywhere, not just this area.”
One of his customers noticed the difference before Jeff explained it. “I had a customer that bought a golf cart from me the other day and he was like, ‘I don’t know who is doing your stuff online, but I give props 100% to them. It is phenomenal.’”
Where are the buyers coming from?
Further away than before, and more of them walk in.
“We’ve actually had quite a few, out of all of our stores, walk-ins. A lot of people might not fill out anything online, but they’ll stop by.”
He asks every customer how they heard about the store. “I’ve had a couple of them say, ‘Hey, I’ve seen you on social media.’ One customer, he lives about two hours away, and he says, ‘For some reason you guys popped up on my Facebook and I’m in the market for a golf cart.’ Well, dad gum it, in two days if he didn’t already buy a six-seater from us.”
The part he kept coming back to was reach. “There’s a lot of people out there that didn’t know where some of our locations were, and how close they were to our locations, until it pops up on social media.”
What did Jeff say at the Raleigh RV show?
A month before the interview, one of our team caught him at his booth.
“Oh, it’s been great. I tell you what, Cart Launch has done tremendous for us. We have had so many customers come by here, seen us on there, a lot of inquiries online. Two thumbs up, guys.”
What was he unsure about at first, and what changed his mind?
He had never paid for marketing and did not want to be the test case.
“I’ve never done it before. I’m just that kind of person that takes time to pull the trigger on something like this. And I said, I don’t have a whole lot of time because we’re so busy at these dealerships.”
Two things moved him. Other dealers, and a phone call. “I have seen a couple dealers that y’all have done before in the Carolinas. I’ve seen their testimonies, and I figured everybody’s going to speak the truth. Matt called me up, started filling me in with details about what you guys offer. That meant a whole lot, when you guys actually took the time to call me, set up a meet, and gave me all the specs of what you guys could be doing. I was like, we can’t go wrong with this.”
And the background. “Did a little bit of research on you guys, seen your background history, where y’all have always been in the golf cart business.”
Between the owners there is 14+ years operating in 8-figure golf cart dealerships. Jeff did his homework and found that.
Would Jeff recommend Cart Launch to other dealers?
He already has, and some of them signed up.
“I would definitely recommend it, 110%. Cart Launch has actually proved to me what they can do. What you guys said has come true. That means a lot to us as dealers. Would I recommend it? Yes. Have I talked to a couple dealers? Yes. Have a couple dealers signed up with you guys? Yes.”
“I pulled the trigger on it and it’s been great. I have no regrets. I love it.”
What can another golf cart dealer take from this?
Jeff’s story is the one most established dealers should read, because he was already winning.
A dealership doing 40 to 50 carts a month in season has the hard parts figured out: inventory, a team, service, a reputation. What Tillery did not have was a way to reach buyers who did not already know the store existed, and a website that turned those buyers into inquiries. Fix that, and a good dealership gets better. Good dealerships can always get better.
It is also a story about Marketplace. It gave him a head start, then everyone caught up. A marketplace listing rents attention. Your own online showroom owns it, which is why we build golf cart dealer websites around inventory first, and then get in front of local buyers before they search.
This is one dealer’s account in his own words. We do not promise a number, and every market is different. The order we work in is the same for every dealer and it is laid out on our golf cart dealer marketing page. More dealer stories are on our results page, including Oceanside Golf Cars, who doubled sales before peak season.
If your dealership is already selling well and you want to see how far it can go, book a call. We look at your site and your market before we talk, and you get the findings either way.
